Congrats to Diane S. of Norman, Oklahoma, who earned her Southwest Companion Pass on October 3, 2017.

The Southwest Companion Pass lets one person fly free with you from the time you earn it until the end of the following year.

Diane and her husband have already put the pass to good use, traveling round-trip from Oklahoma City to Phoenix. They had already paid for tickets for both, but Southwest adjusted her husband’s ticket so it was free once the couple earned the Companion Pass. Southwest rocks!

Diane earned the pass by signing up for TWO Southwest credit cards — a personal and a business card — one month apart, which earned her the 110,000 qualifying Southwest points she needed to earn the pass.

On their first trip using the pass, Diane says they used a perk of signing up for a Hyatt credit card and meeting the minimum spend of two free nights at any Hyatt. They chose to use the two nights at the luxury Miraval Resort, which she says was recently acquired by Hyatt.

“Had we paid for our stay, it would have cost around $800 per person, per night!” she says. “We were able to take advantage of activities like zip-lining and mountain biking, wellness classes, I had a pedicure, enjoyed chef-prepared organic food that was amazing, and we owed $0 at checkout!”

Even better, Diane and her husband got to ride one of Southwest’s brand new Boeing MAX jets, just released in early October, on their way home. “It was a beautiful airplane, and the crews were very proud of it.Ā  Employees outside of the aircraft were taking pictures of it!” says Diane.

Thanks for sharing your story Diane! It shows once again the power of the Southwest Companion Pass and of strategically collecting miles and points to travel almost free.
