Did you know the Chase Sapphire Preferred hidden benefits?
Chase Sapphire Preferred is my very favorite travel credit card, which comes third in my recommended travel credit card plan as part of my simple travel free process for families, which you can learn more about below.
And right now, it is offering a bonus of 60,000 points after a $4,000 minimum spend in the first 3 months.
My family saves more than $8,000 every year flying free and I can show your family how to make flying free a LIFESTYLE too! Join my Families Fly Free program to learn my simple Fly Free Formula, so you can start making more priceless travel memories before your kids — or grandkids — leave home. Click below for more info…
This flexible card is affordable, has a high bonus and works well with my plan to help you fly your family free on Southwest across the U.S. and the Caribbean.
It’s well known for its benefits, including:
- 2 points for every $1 you spend on travel purchases on the card
- 3 points for every $1 you spend on dining purchases on the card
- Awesome sign-on bonus after meeting a minimum spend in the first 3 months
- Instantly transfer points at a 1:1 ratio to Southwest Airlines to use to book FREE flights
Did I mention it has a low annual fee of just $95?
But… there are some lesser-known perks of this card that you should ALSO know that further my case that this is the BEST travel credit card to help you fly free.

10 Chase Sapphire Preferred Hidden Benefits
Remember, to take advantage of these AWESOME perks, you’ll need to use your Chase Sapphire Preferred card to pay for travel, car rentals or products mentioned below.
1. Points Are Worth DOUBLE Paired With the Southwest Companion Pass
Possibly my FAVORITE perk of Chase Sapphire Preferred is how well it pairs with the Southwest Companion Pass.
The Southwest Companion Pass lets one person FLY FREE with you for the life the pass (up to 2 years) on ANY flight you take on Southwest Airlines.
Why?
Because you’ll be able to bring someone with you FREE for each point you earn.
The only thing they will have to pay is the $5.60 mandatory government fees per way. Heckuva deal!

2. Trip Cancellation Insurance
Chase Sapphire Preferred comes with a lot of good automatic insurance benefits when you use the card to make purchases that most people don’t know about.
The first is its trip cancellation insurance.
If your trip is canceled or must be shortened because someone gets ill or due to weather, they will reimburse you up to $10,000 per person and up to $20,000 per trip for pre-paid, non-refundable travel expenses, which include things like airfares, tours and hotels.
Awesome!
3. Baggage Delay Insurance
We all dread the moment we realize our bags didn’t make it with our flight as we stare at the carousel, hoping they will just appear.
In case they don’t, Chase Sapphire Preferred has you covered — at least monetarily!
This insurance will cover things like toiletries and clothing for delays longer than six hours.
They will pay up to $100 per day for five days.
4. Trip Delay Insurance
Is your trip delayed for more than 12 hours or do you have to stay overnight somewhere due to delays?
Let Chase Sapphire Preferred know!
You’re covered for unreimbursed expenses, including meals and lodging, up to $500 per ticket.
5. Primary Car Rental Collision Damage Insurance
This is a big one!
Most car rental insurance on credit cards is “secondary,” which means you have to report any incidents to your own car insurance company first and then the credit card insurance kicks in for anything they didn’t cover.
That means your premiums will go up, as well.
PRIMARY car rental collision insurance, which comes with Chase Sapphire Preferred, means that the card’s insurance will pay FIRST, so you don’t HAVE to report it to your own auto insurance company.
Of course, you’ll have to pay for your rental with your Chase Sapphire Preferred card to take advantage :).
6. Purchase Protection
Did you buy something with your Chase Sapphire Preferred card only to have it damaged or stolen immediately?
Help is on the way!
You’re covered for the first 120 days after you purchase an item if it’s damaged or stolen up to $500 per item and $50,000 per account.
7. Extend Warranties an Additional Year
Another great perk is that when you buy an item with your Chase Sapphire Preferred card it will extend the US Manufacturer’s Warranty of three years or less by an additional year.
Score!
8. No Foreign Transaction Fees
Do you have an overseas trip coming up?
My family loves to fly to Europe on miles! (Get a plan for your family to fly free to Europe inside my Families Fly Free membership)
The good news is that you can use your Chase Sapphire Preferred to pay for purchases internationally without paying an additional fee.
Be sure to use your card to pay for all dining and travel expenses so you earn DOUBLE or TRIPLE points to keep your points balance full for future FREE travel!

9. Zero Delivery Fee for DoorDash
Another perk of Chase Sapphire Preferred is a free DashPass, DoorDash’s subscription services that nets you $0 delivery fees (requires $12 minimum order).
DoorDash is a service that will deliver foods to your home from local restaurants.
Now you only have to pay for the meal and NOT the delivery fee when you use your Preferred card!
10. Earn an Additional 75,000 Points Every Year
Finally, did you know that in addition to the points you can earn by signing up for Chase Sapphire Preferred and meeting the $4,000 minimum spend, you ALSO have the opportunity to earn 75,000 points EVERY year.
How?!
You can earn 15,000 points for each person you refer to apply for Chase Sapphire Preferred.
If they’re approved, you’ll earn 20,000 points for each person up to 75,000each year.
That is a LOT of points that make it worth sharing the benefits of free travel with friends and family. 🙂
Here’s where you can find your referral link so you can start earning those 100,000 points!
